Art-Based Workshops for Creativity

Meditation has been used by various cultures throughout the ages (5,000 years). Meditation can be thought of as anytime the mind is emptied of useless or negative thinking. There are two minute meditations and hour long meditations that I use with my clients. Meditation when used as a discipline daily can bring stress relief and increased creativity. Meditation induces the following: Relaxation, concentration, altered state of awareness, suspension of logical thought processes (left brain thinking), and mindfulness.

How to Meditate

Sit or lay in a comfortable place. Make sure the clothing you wear is loose. Begin to breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth several times. Imagine your muscles relaxing with each new breath. See yourself inside your head in a place that is relaxing. Float up into this space. While floating, keep a steady breath. With intention, empty all thoughts out of your head. Let your mind and body ease into this quiet space and sit with it for a few minutes. Come back down into your body. Wiggle your feet and arms to "wake" up. Open your eyes.

Collage Making

Gather together assorted textured and colored paper, oil sticks, glue, scissors, and heavy paper for the base of collage. Immediately after you meditate, spontaneously choose colors and create shapes from your art supplies. Let your hand decide what colors to choose and where to place them. If you saw something from your meditation, describe it in color and form. Use your completed collage as a guide to your future meditations.
